St. Patrick's Day

The St. Patrick's Day parade was held in city center Cork. This was the best parade I've been to in a long time. Lots of music including Arabian dancers, Scottish bagpipes, a group dancing to the Charleston, Chinese gongs and more. The Irish pride themselves on their Viking heritage and they will quickly inform you that red hair is Viking not Irish. After several centuries I'm not sure how you tell the difference. And, by the way, Ireland is not an island-just ask the natives.

Seems like every ethnic group had a float entry. The theme of the parade must have had something to do with early explorations, pirates or boats because there were lots of those things.

No motorized vehicles were allowed and the entries were very creative and original. No candy was thrown and there were no horses so clean-up was easy.

This photographer is so Irish. He was on his mobile (cell phone) and I couldn't understand one word.

This lady is wearing the latest in Irish style. Short, poufy coat or shirt, blackleggings and long boots.I think it looks like a court jester.

A parade without candy? That doesn't sound right. How can a parade not have candy? Why else would you go? :)
